Reading isn't exactly the hottest thing in here in Indonesia . Many of us would rather go out and shop or play soccer than to stay inside reading a book. Maybe that's due to the cost of books and limited access.
So that is what the organization 1001Buku is trying to fix. They are a group of volunteers who are working to provide more books, quality reading materials, and creative toys for children through non-profit community-run libraries (like the one we are trying to establish in the C&S Library Project). 1001Buku needs our help. We are setting up a 1001Buku Book Drop Box. The 'book drop box' will be located in front of the office starting next week. We are looking for donations of good quality new or used reading materials and/or creative toys. The books can be in Indonesian or English. We are planning to keep 50 per cent of the donations for our proposed community library and send 50 per cent on to 1001Buku to be distributed to their network of community libraries. Right now the BIS Community Library has 40 books and we're aiming for a lot more before we open.
Here is a link to the 1001Buku brochure so you can read more about the organization.
They also have a Organization Profile that has lots of information. For more information visit their web site. They have an Indonesian and English version.
